We are lucky to have such great employment partners who want to see at Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates’ (JOG) students put in a position to succeed. From learning skills in the trades to developing interpersonal skills, these companies provide valuable professional development to our kids as part of the JAG Model, setting them up for success in their future careers. TimkenSteel is a great example of an employment partner who works with us in a variety of ways, including sponsoring, providing board representation and event speakers, and sharing information on metal-working and other trades with our youth.

Most recently, TimkenSteel employee Rachael Neff was our guest speaker for May’s “Like A Boss” speaker series. In this Zoom meeting attended by JOG youth from throughout our footprint, she talked about how she got to where she is today. Rachael began her journey doing a variety of jobs throughout Ohio, trying to figure out what she wanted to do. As a single mom with a high school diploma, it was hard to find a job that fit both her needs and her goals. TimkenSteel was the answer, hiring her and helping her grow. They gave her the opportunity to get a college education, all the way up to an MBA! Their tuition-reimbursement program goes into effect after only one year of employment and covers all classroom expenses but books.

The company culture at TimkenSteel includes the chance to grow into what you want to do while working within the company. “Someone is always looking to help you grow in your career. Think of it as a test to see how you can handle more responsibility.” Rachael explained. All workers are unionized, both hourly and salary, and there are many different opportunities. When talking about chances towards advancement, Rachael said. “Timken[Steel] is a great place to get your foot in the door and work your way up!” She continued, “We offer a variety of different learning opportunities. During my time here, I have got to learn a little more in every area.” They offer entry-level positions to see what the environment is like to individuals like our students and provide opportunities for employees to advance their careers through apprenticeships in fields like electrical, welding, and machinery.

We are lucky to be able to have such amazing partners like TimkenSteel across all four counties we are in at JOG: Summit, Medina, Stark, and Trumbull. To see more from this session with Rachael Neff, please click here to watch the full session.
