JOG the Web: Subsidized Work Experiences

Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates (JOG) has been striving to put words to action since our inception. We work to ensure our students are academically successful as well as career-wise. Not everyone is able to jump straight into the fields they want to be in just out of their high school education. Our subsidized work program is one way the JOG program is able to put “our money where our mouth is.

We want our young people to be able to be able to go into fields they actually want to be in. Whether that is welding, medical, or even marketing, we believe that putting participants where they want to be with their best leg up is a the most successful approach to career readiness. In this program, we work with our employer partners to recruit students that may have little or no on-paper experience to help them get that “first step in the door.” To help mitigate some risk to employers, we pay the participant’s salary, at a competitive wage, while they are in the initial steps of the program.

This approach opens opportunities for the participant to learn and earn while gaining experience. This program helps students on major career paths: both those choosing to go to college, and those going into trades. This hands-on experience can help participants make up their mind of whether the field they worked in is where they want to build a career. If they decide that they want to go into their chosen field, it is a great way of having that initial experience, since it can help JOG youth get their first full-time job experience after the fact.

JOG works hard to make sure our young people are prepared to be successful. Properly transitioning to work is so much more than just being placed into a job, it is about making sure they are excited for their next steps. We are proud to be able to provide these opportunities and we are happy to have such great relationships between JOG, our participants, and our employer partners through this program.
