JOG the Web: JOG for Employers

8/4/2023

If you have worked alongside Tri-County Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates (JOG) at any time, you will know that we love talking about our students. But, our love doesn’t stop there. We also are massively thankful to our employers and partners that work with us throughout the year. There are a number of ways that our employers do and can go above and beyond for our students.

Some of these opportunities are programs such as “Like-A-Boss” sessions, job shadow opportunities, or hosting a lunch-and-learn sessions . “Like-A-Boss” sessions are video calls where students and staff talk to a real-world professional from industries interest our students. These talks go over the individual’s career timeline, what they do, what their company does, passing along any wisdom they can, and relaying any applicable open positions at their company. Job shadows give our students a chance to see how an industry they are interested in actually works by watching “how it’s done” firsthand. Lunch-and-learns are a way for employers to get in touch with the staff and the board of directors at JOG. These sessions offer the chance for us to mutually grow our services within both organizations.

Finally, a great way to get involved is to become an employer partner through JOG! Connecting as a JOG employer partner can be through traditional means of direct hire job placement or through subsidized work. Subsidized work just means that the students are paid through JOG but employed through your company as a part of the JAG model. This is where the partnership is defined where the students are paid through JOG’s programming and in return, you would provide the mentorship and work-based learning experience opportunities and give the students an opportunity to grow within a career they want to be in.

Bunker Hill Golf Course in Medina, Ohio is another great example of a longstanding employer-partner of JOG. When asked about their experience working with the JOG program, they said, “JOG has been great for my business for over the past 7 years. It has helped us add additional staff without a large budget increase. Most importantly, I am able to provide a workplace for some fine young individuals that need a chance to grow and receive guidance. JOG helps businesses like mine change the lives of many while filling a need of my own.” On August 21st, JOG will be hosting their first ever Golf Outing at Bunker Hill. We are lucky to be able to provide so many resources for employers to get connected with our students, both for our current and future partners. Whether it is talking to staff or working with students directly, we are always looking to build new relationships with our community. Interested in working with JOG?
