JOG the Web: Summer Work 2024

02/5/2024

Help Youth Learn Work This Summer with Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates!

Youth employment is at the heart of what we do at Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates. Our goal is to set up the next generation of young people for success in pathways toward their career goals. We can’t do this without the help from our wonderful Employer Partners, who offer workplaces for our students to experience hands-on training, mentorship, and career exposure within their pathway of interest.

We do this through our subsidized and unsubsidized year-round employment programs, as well as our summer work program. The summer program provides hands-on vocational training to students through employment opportunities over the summer while school is out. We do this by establishing pathways that align with the students’ identified career goals, ranging from manufacturing to business and everything in between. Not all employers are year-round partners. Some employers provide extra help over the summer as a temporary position. However, others have become year-round employers after seeing the dedication their employed students put forth at their company.

While employed through the summer work program, students receive career guidance through hands-on training. They do this by learning parts of the job they want to pursue by seeing it done in front of them, as well as doing some of the work themselves. This program also offers a mentorship program from industry professionals through hands-on training they would not be able to obtain this early in their career otherwise.

With summer quickly approaching, we would love to have you join us as a part of the JOG family. We are always looking to bring on new employers to grow our network for our participants across Ashland, Medina, Stark, Summit, and Trumbull Counties. If you have been a summer work employer, or are a current year-round employer partner, consider becoming a summer work employer and furthering more young people’s paths towards career success.
