JOG the Web: Leadership Development Conference ‘22

Conference Date: 11/02/2022

We all need to be inspired right? Those mornings that you hit the snooze one too many times and now you have to rush out the door without taking needed time to make sure your routine is done properly. Krisner Green from Jobs for America’s Graduates – Louisiana knows that feeling and he knows we do too.

It’s all about perspective. Whether you wear a suit to work, or an NFL jersey, whether you are from a small town or a big city, or even how you were raised. He tells the JOG youth that you can look at your history as either a painful thing that you have to deal with, or as a motivator to get up in the morning and do better. This part of his speech highlights the Accountability portion of the Jobs for America’s Graduates model (or JAG model) which “uses metrics to reward performance and identifies best practices for continuous improvement.”

Like a bank account you cannot receive what you don’t put in. You can’t just swipe a debit card with money that isn’t in your bank account, you need to put money in. The same goes for your life. You need to be able to put effort and time into yourself to help yourself grow for a better tomorrow. One step at a time, each and every day.

Deposit today, you can’t get out what you don’t put in.
— Krisner Green

Another important thing to keep in mind with leadership is that you need to know and provide the Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How’s. When you give someone a task they will do it how they think it should be done but if you help guide them by saying how it should be done, you will produce the results you were striving for. This is shown best in a video example where he asks a gentleman to sing “Amazing Grace” first how he would in his job as a music teacher, then as if he was at a funeral. This important difference displayed the difference in the “How’s” and the “Why’s”. The first is more calculated and focuses on the musical technicalities, and the second focuses more on emotion, power, and passion.

Finally, you want to wake up with purpose. We all want to sleep in but Krisner says that we all need to take the day by storm with a purpose. Jump out of bed with a can-do attitude. He says that when you wake up with purpose the ‘what’ in your day becomes easier. Recognize your blessings, because positive self-talk could become as routine as brushing your teeth.
