JOG the Web: In-School Support

7/14/2023

Tri-County Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates (JOG) is lucky to have a staff of such caring adults who put the needs of our youth first. Not every young person enrolled in our program comes from a stable home life, and external factors like that play into how our students are able to learn and grow. JOG’s In-School Career Specialists work with students to address these factors, offering extended services and support that go above and beyond the standard curriculum.

Our In-School Career Specialists work hard to ensure that every student that is a part of the JOG program in their schools feel welcome. This looks like many different things. This could be an office where students can come in to have a safe space to talk and decompress. It can be an adult who they know they can trust helping them through issues going on in their life and referring them to resources as necessary. It can even be hosting days focused on self-betterment to empower students to grow (See our blog post on Buchtel High School’s self-love day by clicking here).

A great way that our Career Specialists help their students feel empowered is through the JOG Career Association. The JOG Career Association is a student-led group that gives our young people the chance to be a part of something bigger, experience working as a team, and develop leadership skills. This is best exemplified through the Career Association Creed. A great part of the creed that sums up the ultimate goal reads as follows: “I believe my success is earned through my efforts at school and at work. I believe the growth of my abilities and experiences gained through the Career Association will assure my future career success.” Each school’s program operates a little differently, but they all work to help elevate their JOG Career Association members to be the leaders of tomorrow’s workforce.

Of course, this is only a fraction of what our Career Specialists do. No two days look alike, and rolling with the punches is their specialty. We are so happy to have each and every Specialist and their continued efforts to help youth across Summit, Stark, Ashland, Medina, and Trumbull Counties. These efforts can be felt not only with the student themselves but across their friends, family, and future employers as well.
