JOG the Web: Giving Tuesday 2023

11/13/2023

Tri-County Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates (JOG) not only provides support related to our students’ education and career paths, but also supports outside the classroom, connecting our students to what they need in their daily lives. To do this, we have created the Endurance Fund, which gives JOG students one-time help for personal barriers that keep them from continuing toward their goals. This could be helping them get a flat tire replaced on the car they use to get to work or purchasing childcare supplies or toiletries when they have started a job but that first paycheck hasn’t come in.

To continue this support for our students, this year for Giving Tuesday, we are asking for donations for our Endurance Fund. You may be asking, “What is Giving Tuesday?” Good question! Giving Tuesday is a global movement to empower nonprofit organizations through donations from the generous support of those in our own backyards. On the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and that big shopping weekend, nonprofits around the world ask our communities to give back and help the good work we all do. Think of it as a day to celebrate the sense of giving around the holiday season.

One example of the Endurance Fund being used is from our student, Vanessa. While enrolled in the JOG program, she and her 1-year-old son found themselves experiencing homelessness. At the time, she had no job, childcare, or family support—only her JOG Career Specialist. Through the Endurance Fund, she received diapers, wipes, baby clothes and supplies, toiletries, a suitcase, and food for herself and her baby. After these basic needs were met, her Career Specialist was able to help her get into a shelter, sign up for food assistance, find childcare, and secure a job. With the support of the Endurance Fund and her Career Specialist, Vanessa achieved long-term stability for herself and her child.

Stories like Vanessa’s are what makes our Endurance Fund crucial. This funding allows us to give a helping hand outside of our traditional means. It’s through the generous support of individuals like yourself that we can maintain this assistance around. Simply put, we can’t do what we do without the generosity of our partners. These could be anyone from our employer partners to our individual supporters and even our staff.

As Giving Tuesday approaches on November 28th, please consider donating at our website jogworks.org/donate or click the button below. We are very thankful to those who have given or give regularly to the JOG program, and we are excited to see the support or this year’s Giving Tuesday campaign!
